It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Lois M. Pettit, of Pickle Hill Road, Fort Plain, NY on June 20, 2019 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Pettit; children, Ronald Pettit, Jr., Mark Pettit, Shonny Capodilupo, Kathleen Kilmartin, Martin Pettit, and Amber Hilyard; grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, Justin, Chad, Steven, Tyler, Brianna, Logan, Dylan, Abraham, Nathaniel, Abigail, Mikaela, Kaitlyn, Braedan, and Gavin; and great-grandchildren, Theodore, Leianna, and Elijah.
Born December 2, 1942 in the Town of Mohawk, NY, to John Steenburgh and Marion King Steenburgh, Lois was one of seven children: Darrell Steenburgh, John Steenburgh, Eleanor Crosby, Betty Havlicek, Donna Steenburgh, and Archie Steenburgh. In 1961 she graduated from Fonda High School and worked for Templeton’s Glove Factory and Kasson & Keller as payroll clerk.
On May 18, 1963, she married the love of her life. Ron and Lois have been married over 56 years. In 1971 they bought the farm on Pickle Hill Road in Fort Plain, NY, where they raised their family and found God’s calling to raise several foster children over the years. Lois was a mother figure to many who will always love her dearly.
Surviving friends will miss her spectacular sense of humor, inspiring creative talents such as drawing, writing, gardening, and jewelry making, and the loving care she was able to provide with a simple hug or letter. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
