Mrs. Millicent Florence Hoffman Ellsworth, 77, of Palatine Bridge, New York, passed from this world into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Independence Day, July 4, 2014, at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, New York after a long and difficult illness. She was born on January 17, 1937, the younger child of Ellsworth Hoffman and Kathryn Smith Hoffman when they lived on Ellsworth Street in Amsterdam, New York. Millie attended Woodrow Wilson School, a block from her childhood home on McCleary Avenue and graduated from Wilbur Lynch High School in 1955. She Studied Elementary Education and Art at the State University of New York at New Paltz where she met the love of her life on a blind date. Millie married Walter George Ellsworth, on June 14, 1959, in Amsterdam, NY and recently celebrated 55 years together.
Millie's life focus was her family and with Walter she raised three children, Sue-Ann Wheadon (David) of Palatine Bridge, Peter Ellsworth (fiancée Elaine Clayburn) of Galway, and Thomas Ellsworth of Galway. She treasured her grandchildren, Vanessa Wheadon (fiancé Seth Trowbridge) of Cooperstown, and Walter John Ellsworth of Galway. Also surviving are her brother Wallace Hoffman (Betty) of Amsterdam; sisters-in-law Nancy Prince (David) of New Jersey, Mary Libourel (Arthur)of New Jersey, Joan Mansell (Frank, Jr.) of West Virginia, and Sally Brough (Graham) of South Carolina, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Millie was a avid gardener and crafter, often combining the two hobbies to create wonderful gifts and decorations. She Loved to decorate for holidays and drew from a large collection to adorn the interior and exterior of her and Walter's home. She was also active in the community, serving as a Sunday School teacher and then as Sunday School Superintendent at the Canajoharie Reformed Church. She provided a firm foundation in faith for her children and those of others. As a farmer's wife she participated in Farm Bureau, the Dairy Princess program, and was a 4-H club leader, encouraging young people to grow and learn.
Millie's life will be celebrated at the convince of the family at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc. in Canajoharie, NY; with interment following at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
