Obituary of Alice Mayhan
Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice Mayhan of Palatine Bridge passed away on January 10, 2019. Born Alice King in Northville, New York in 1941, she graduated from Fultonville High School and soon went out to Kansas City, Missouri, where she met Chris Mayhan of Arkansas. Four months later, on November 26, 1959, they married, and began a loving partnership that lasted for fifty-nine years. They were devoted to each other until the end of her life. She had four daughters, and is survived by three daughters and two grand-daughters, two sisters, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
She completed a bachelor's degree in Business Administration through the Empire State College, and was proud of her career as a caseworker for Montgomery County Department of Social Services. She worked to help those in the community who were in need. Over the years, she assisted local people through efforts with the Fulmont Community Action Agency and her church.
Alice loved books and took pride in the educational achievements of her daughters and granddaughters. She loved to talk with children in the community, and always took the opportunity to ask them, "Do you like to read?" She was so happy when the answer was "yes."
She got great joy from watching wild animals and the birds at the feeder, and enjoyed visits from her "grand-puppies." She enjoyed playing card games, was passionate about local history and authors, and collected the artwork created by family and friends.
A private service will be in the Spring, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be made to Fulmont Community Action Agency, 200 Canal Street, Fort Plain, New York 13339 or Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter, Hilltop Road, Sprakers, New York 12166.
