Mrs. Judith Marie Hoyer Coates, 71, most recently of Roswell, Georgia and formerly of Johnstown, New York passed away, Monday, December 24, 2018 at Roswell Nursing and Rehab Center, following a seven year battle with cancer.
Born on September 16, 1947 and growing up in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Russell Sherwood Hoyer and Lillian Martha Weyant Hoyer. Mrs. Coates resided in Georgia for the past 4 years to be closer to her daughter, previously residing in Johnstown.
While in New York, she worked at the former Ames Department Store as a cashier as well as at the Truck Stop in Fonda as a cashier. Always friendly to everyone and never a bad word to say about anyone.
Mrs. Coates was a member of the First Baptist Church in Johnstown, NY. She had a strong faith and a love for Jesus.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with friends and family, especially her granddaughter Lily who always made her smile. Judy was a very compassionate and caring person and took care of her mother for many years.
Mrs. Coates is survived by her daughter, Sarah and David Glover of Alpharetta, GA; brothers, Russell and Shirley Hoyer of Canajoharie, NY, Roger and Connie Hoyer of Fonda, NY, Ronnie and Linda Hoyer of Colorado; granddaughter, Lillian Glover; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Noon at Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church with Pastor Jan Markel officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday May 25th from 11:00-12:00pm at the Church. Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery following the service.
