Obituary of Emery T. Giovannone

Mr. Emery T. Giovannone, 69, of Witter Street, Fort Plain, New York passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, following a long illness.

Born on April 13, 1949 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Emerson Giovannone and Mary S. Chest Giovannone.  He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School.  He received his Associate’s Degree from FMCC and his Bachelor’s Degree from Marist College.  He was a lifelong area resident.

Emery worked for Conrail Railroad, as a track installer.

He served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving several honors for his service.

Emery was an accomplished guitar player, playing in the “Sunflower Furnace”.  He loved to read and self-educate.  Despite being paralyzed, he never stopped living his life.

His parents predeceased him.

Emery is survived by his brother, David J. Giovannone of Palatine Bridge, NY; aunts, Doris Dutcher of Fort Plain, NY, Gloria Friello of California; nephew, Michael Reinhart; great-niece, Carolynn Reinhart; as well as several cousins.

At Emery’s request there will be no services.  Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY.
