Mr. James Edward Hines, 69, of State Highway 10, Caroga Lake, New York passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at his home, with his loving wife by his side.
Born on September 30, 1948 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Edward Clayton Hines and Velma Jansson Hines. He was a graduate of Canajoharie Central School District and had been a resident of Caroga Lake for 25 years, previously residing in Palatine Bridge, NY.
Mr. Hines opened The Scooter Factory in Fort Plain, prior to owning and operating The Greeley Tavern until 1999. He also worked as a realtor with Glove City Realty in Gloversville. Mr. Hines retired from Wheelerville Union Free School District in 2009, where he worked as a custodian.
On July 17, 1981 at Caroga Lake Chapel in Caroga Lake, James was married to Victoria Lehtonen. Together they celebrated over 37 years of marriage.
Mr. Hines is survived by his wife, Victoria Hines of Caroga Lake, NY; beloved children, Desiree A. Hines of Orlando, FL, Gregory J. Hines of Orlando, FL; and his snuggle buddy, Maisy.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 3:00PM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00AM in Slate Hill Cemetery in Sharon Springs.
