Mr. Howard C. Steenburg, 86, formerly of Elwood Road, Starkville, New York, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
Born on March 12, 1932 in Stone Arabia, NY, he was the son of Ralph Steenburg and Blanche Moyer Steenburg. He attended Springfield School and had been a resident of Starkville since 1973, previously residing in Randall, NY.
He was a member of the Van Hornesville United Methodist Church.
Howard worked for Remington Arms. He retired from the maintenance department at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie. He also worked in the Proof and Testing Fire Arms department at Remington Arms and was plant superintendent of Lee Dye & Co. in Johnstown, NY.
Mr. Steenburg enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and camping when he was younger. He also enjoyed RVing and going to Maine.
On March 12, 1960 in Herkimer, NY, Howard was married to Donna L. Steenburg. She predeceased him on August 27, 2005. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Rita Delarm in 1958 and his sister, Alice Snyder.
He is survived by his 4 sons, Scott C. Steenburg of TX; Mark H. Steenburg and his wife, MaryLourdes Steenburg of Herkimer, NY; Larry W. Steenburg and his wife, Lisa Steenburg of Frankfort, NY, Jon D. Steenburg and his wife, Kim Steenburg of Van Hornesville, NY; 2 brothers, Bill and Cindy Steenburg of East Springfield, NY, Alan and Hazel Steenburg of Springfield, NY; sister, Blanche Logan of Stone Arabia, NY; 7 grandchildren, Sarah and Shawn Steenburg, Sydney, Tyler, and Chase Steenburg, Jonny Steenburg, Greg Steenburg; 7 great-grandchildren, Sadie, Ellie, Audey, Avery, Olivia, Ethan, Ava; best friend, Paul Crim of Ilion, NY.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 2:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Van Hornesville Cemetery.
