Mrs. Ruth E. Herron, 90, of Stone Arabia Street, Nelliston, New York passed away peacefully in her sleep, following a brief illness, on Monday, July 2, 2018.
Born on July 29, 1927 in The Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of Emery Sanders and Lillie Hayes Sanders. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a lifetime area resident.
Ruth Herron was a machine operator for LifeSavers in Canajoharie for over 43 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
Ruth had a true love for her family and brought joy to all who knew her. She was her happiest having Sunday dinners with her family and had a passion for gardening and the outdoors. Ruth loved attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She was their number one fan.
Her husband, Robert W. Herron, Sr. predeceased her in January 1988. Her sisters, Leona Shibley, Lucille Sanders; and brother, Bernard Sanders also predeceased her.
Ruth Herron is survived by her son, Robert W. Herron, Jr. of Nelliston, NY; daughters, Karen L. Brown and Raymond of Fort Plain, NY, Pamela A. McDuffee of Clermont, FL; 7 grandchildren, Angelica (Erik) Alves, Amanda (Jimmie) Ryan, Joshua (Janine) Brown, Casey Shults (Chris Searles), Jed Brown (Megan Lamanna), Canaan (Sara) McDuffee, Hannah (Kenneth) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Kristine, Susannah, Knox, Samuel, Liam, Molly, Fiona, Lainie, Livia Ruth, Ella, and Kaleb.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:30-12:30pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A prayer service will take place on Saturday at 12:30pm at the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial will take place in Fort Plain cemetery.
