Obituary of Dennis Johnson

Mr. Dennis N. Johnson, Sr., 66, of Lincoln Street, Fort Plain, New York lost his battle with cancer Sunday, June 3, 2018 at St. Mary’s Healthcare of Amsterdam, surrounded by his family.

Born on January 29, 1952 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Jessie Johnson and Etta Sitterly Johnson.  He was a graduate of Cherry Valley High School, Class of 1970 and was a lifelong area resident.

Most recently Mr. Johnson worked for Remington Arms as a tool cutter and grinder, retiring in 2014.  Prior to that he worked for Georgia Pacific for over 16 years.

He was of Methodist faith.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the BPOE Eagles of Canajoharie #3846, and the Loyal Order of the Moose #853 of Canajoharie.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, and being an overall handyman around his house.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandra Johnson of Fort Plain, NY; several children; many grandchildren; and siblings, Judy, Susan, Nancy, Michael, Mark, and Travis.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00pm at Freysbush Cemetery in Fort Plain with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY.
