Obituary of Linda Burgess

Mrs. Linda L. (Montanye) Burgess, 70, of Prospect Street, Canajoharie, New York passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday evening, May 26, 2018.

Born on March 26, 1948 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold Montanye and Anna Mae Leamon Montanye.  She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1966. 

Linda had worked at Beech Nut in the baby food department both in Canajoharie and Amsterdam.

She was a very active member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church.

Linda had been a lifelong Canajoharie resident, and was a member of the Johnstown Moose and A Lifetime member of the Canajoharie American Legion. She also enjoyed traveling and reading, playing cards, but more than anything she looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

On May 25, 1968 Linda was married to Lawrence L. Burgess at the Canajoharie United Methodist Church.  Together they celebrated 50 years and 1 day of marriage.

Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband Lawrence L. Burgess of Canajoharie, NY; 2 Daughters, Melissa A. & Jeffrey P. Watson, and Paula L. Rumberger of Johnstown, NY; 4 Sisters, Nancy Erwin of Blades, DE, Connie Dingman of Canajoharie, Virginia Mattice of Winston-Salem, NC, Brenda Krutz of Stone Arabia; 3 Brothers David Montanye of Palatine Bridge, Clifford Montanye, of Canajoharie, and Brian Montanye of Florida; grandchildren, Jeffrey G. Watson, (Cindy), Steven String, Jr.,(Jolene),Brett String, (Brooke), Coty Ruison, Michael Rumberger, Jr., Anthony Rumberger; and 5 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces, Nephews, & Cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 at 1:00pm at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.  The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 10:00-1:00.  Burial will take place following the services at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
