Obituary of Leo C. Saltsman

Mr. Leo C. Saltsman, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 31, 2014 on his farm in Stone Arabia, where he resided for 61 years. He was still milking cows in his mind until his passing. Leo was born in Stone Arabia on October 20, 1929 to George and Edna Christman Saltsman. He attended the Country School next to his parents house before going to Fort Plain Central School. Later on he was employed by the school driving bus. Mr. Saltsman was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia. He enjoyed tinkering with things in the garage, snowmobiling and wintering in Florida. Mr. Saltsman was predeceased by his sister, Thelma Boyer and four brothers, Clyde, Malcolm, Thalen and Arnold Saltsman. Leo is survived by his wife, Eleanor Saltsman, whom he married April 11, 1953; one son, Mark and Lydia Saltsman, who also reside in Stone Arabia; three grandchildren, Lucas and Lola Saltsman of Utica, NY, Jay and Jess Saltsman of Lake Luzerne, NY, Eliza Saltsman and boyfriend, Mike Putnam of Stone Arabia, NY; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Cian and Jenna Saltsman; two sisters, Mildred Bollen and Edith Lansing; aunt, Gladys Magele; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 4th, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. Saltsman may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Pine West Plaza, Building 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205 or to the Salem United Methodist Church, 1254 Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
