Mrs. Bernice A. Kelley, 97, most recently of Arkell Hall, Canajoharie, New York died Friday, September 5, 2014 following a short illness.
Born on December 18, 1916 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Frederick Jones and Hazel Petrie Jones. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, Class of 1935. Mrs. Kelley had been a resident of the Canajoharie area since 1939, previously residing in Little Falls.
Mrs. Kelley was employed in the Accounting Department at Beech-Nut/Life Savers Corp. in Canajoharie, retiring in 1980 after 18 years of service.
She was a communicant of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post #222 Ladies Auxiliary for over 68 years. She was a member of the Exempt Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Garden Club, and Canajoharie Senior Citizens. She was an avid card player. She enjoyed quilt making and shopping.
On July 3, 1939 in Little Falls, NY, Bernice was married to Richard E. Kelley. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1993. She was also predeceased by 2 infant children, David and Mary; son, Richard F. Kelley; brother, Nellis Jones, who died during service in World War II.
Mrs. Kelley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia M. and David Edick of Canajoharie, NY; 3 grandchildren, Shari Kelley and Mike Koehler of Amsterdam, NY, Juliet and Mark Florian of Fort Plain, NY, Christopher and Amy Kelley of Amsterdam, NY; 3 great-grandchildren, Kelsi Weeden, Courtney Koehler, and Dawson Koehler all of Amsterdam, NY; special friends, Mildred Fuller of Canajoharie, NY, Grace Tambasco of Amsterdam, NY, Margaret Siegle of Palatine Bridge, NY, Jay and Gail Summerson of Canajoharie, NY.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Johnsville Cemetery.
