Mrs. Veda L. Chiarotto, 81, of Moyer Street, Canajoharie, New York died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.
She was born on May 15, 1933 and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Chiarotto was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1949.
On September 23, 1950 at the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church Veda was married to Arthur Chiarotto. Together they celebrated over 64 years of marriage.
Mrs. Chiarotto worked for various insurance companies in the local area during her career.
She was a current communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain and was an active member of the former St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church in Canajoharie for over 60 years.
Mrs. Chiarotto was predeceased by her sisters, Lucy DiLoretto and Ann Abeling.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Chiarotto of Canajoharie, NY; 3 daughters, Christina Hill and Edward of Canajoharie, NY, Linda Speach and Gerry of Baldwinsville, NY, Lisa Stowell and Clifford of Canajoharie, NY; 5 grandchildren, Stephen Hill, Jennifer Hill, Jared Speach, Adrianna Speach, James Stowell; 1 great-granddaughter, Alli Kate Hill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 9:15am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 2:00-4:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic cemetery, Canajoharie.
