Obituary of Gertrude R. Heiser

Gertrude R. Heiser Mrs. Gertrude R. Heiser, 95, of Clinton Road, Canajoharie, New York passed away at home on October 18, 2014. Born on February 12, 1919 in Stone Arabia, NY, she was the daughter of Thruman R. Groff and Ruth Rackmyer Groff. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1936 and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Heiser was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Flume & Fuller Feed Store in Palatine Bridge, NY retiring in 1964 after 14 years of service. She was previously employed at Christman Hardware for 5 years. She was a member of the Stone Arabia United Methodist Church. Mrs. Heiser was a former member of the Cross Trails Western Square Dance Club. She also enjoyed caring for animals. On September 8, 1956 at St. John's Parsonage, Gertrude married Harry L. Heiser. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1996.. Mrs. Heiser is survived by her nieces, Margaret Miller of Palatine Bridge, NY, Lorraine Fredericks of Fort Plain; nephew, Duane Groff of Fort Plain, NY. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 2pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. David Phrast officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends prior from 1:00-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs Gertrude R. Heiser may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc., designated towards the emergency medical fund, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
