Mr. Robert M. Shear, 65, of Route 10s, Canajoharie, New York died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Little Falls Hospital. Born on March 20, 1949, in Watertown, NY, he is the son of Robert Shear and the late Pauline Mackey. His step- parents are Agnes Shear and the late Charles Mackey. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. Following his high school graduation Mr. Shear served in the US Army for over 20 years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his time with the Army, Robert enlisted in the US Navy. Most recently Mr. Shear was a maintenance worker for Corcord Court Apartments in Aston, PA, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275. He enjoyed fishing, was a John Wayne fan, and an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He also collected lighthouses. Mr. Shear was predeceased by his first wife, Terri Morley Shear, his mother, step-father and his son, Robert Shear, Jr. A marriage to Katie Henry Shear Foster ended in divorce. He is survived by a son, Allen J. and wife Nicole Shear of Horsham, PA; his twin daughters, Sara Spaulding of Canajoharie, NY, Amy Krawiecki of Delmar, NY; sister, Candace Hodge (David) of Dexter, NY; brother, Wendell Shear of Watertown, NY; Tim Shear (Dee) , Dexter, NY; Randy Shear (Kathi), Southwick, Mass.; Terry Ingersol l (Dennis) of Black River, NY; Laurie Hoyt (Bill), Rochester, NY; Charlie (Cathy) Mackey, Dexter, NY; 5 grandchildren, Brooke Reith, Cheyenne Shear, Ethan Spaulding, Brady Spaulding, Alec Krawiecki, 1 great-grandchild; and many special nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 11:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by Active Duty Military and the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad. Contributions in memory of Mr. Robert M. Shear may be made to a military related charity or organization of one's choice.
