Obituary of Richard A. Waner

Mr. Richard A. Waner, 78, of Third Avenue, Canajoharie, New York died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, following a brief illness. Born on March 5, 1936 in Fort Plain, NY, he was the son of Alfred Waner and Carmita Leneker Waner. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1955 and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Waner was employed by the NYS DOT as a heavy machine operator for over 37 years, retiring in 1991. Richard served in the US Army, National Guard. He was of Lutheran faith. Mr. Waner was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Waner. Mr. Waner is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Clouthier Waner of Canajoharie, NY; son, Thomas and Pam Waner of Canajoharie, NY; daughter, Sharon and Sam Horning of Palatine Bridge, NY; 4 grandchildren, Christine O'Connor, Patrick O'Connor, Trista Schimpf, Jason Horning; 6 great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Dorothy, Kenny, Frankie, Charlie, Richie; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the spring. The time and date are to be announced at a later date.
