Obituary of Lawrence W. Montanye

Mr. Lawrence W. "Greek" Montanye, 68, of Pavlus Lane, Fonda, New York died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
Born on May 17, 1949 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Paul Montanye and Mary Bilenic Montanye. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1968 and was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Montanye was a carpenter. He worked in Construction.
He is a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War as a combat engineer.
Mr. Montanye loved his farm, beef cattle, and draft horses. He greatly enjoyed good times in his garage with his friends.
On April 7, 1972 at The Currytown Reformed Church, Lawrence was married to Susan Zemken.
Mr. Montanye is survived by his wife, Susan Montanye of Fonda, NY; daughter, Nicole Dettenrieder and Shawn of Tribes Hill, NY; brother, Douglas and Judy Montanye of Canajoharie, NY; grandson, Matheu Dettenrieder; nephews, Todd and Tricia Montanye, Tim and Julie Montanye, Jeffery Montanye, Michael and Stephanie Montanye, Ray and Shauna Zemken, Robert and Kayla Ferguson; nieces, Amy Desrochers, Mary McClasky, Michelle Ferguson; sister-in-law, Diane and Bruce Ferguson; many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
