Helen Frances Null Obituary

Helen Frances Null

1943-2026

With her hair nicely brushed and lipstick on, Helen Null passed away peacefully on the morning of May 14th, 2026, while residing at Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls, NY.

Helen was born on December 19th, 1943, and spent her early years on the family farm in Holland Patent with her sister, Eleanor. After graduating from Holland Patent High School, she briefly attended college, then met and married George Armstrong, the father of her three beloved children: Sandra, Susan, and Mark. She raised her family in Fort Plain, NY.

She later married Eugene Null and spent four years in Dover, Delaware, where he was stationed in the Air Force. They were married for 32 years until his passing in 2010. When she moved back to Fort Plain, she worked various jobs, including assistant manager at the Salvation Army and being the demo lady for Price Chopper, handing out samples to all who passed by her way. Upon retirement, she wanted to be closer to her grandkids and made the move to Dolgeville, where she spent the last 18 years. She developed a special relationship with each of her grandchildren, where she enjoyed car rides, ice cream trips, singing songs, making jokes, and sharing her life stories with them.

Helen had a great sense of humor and was loved by everyone. She enjoyed many friendly interactions with familiar faces and strangers while both working and shopping in the community. She listened to people's stories and had an easy-going personality, making it comfortable for people to talk to her. She would listen to anyone's problems and offer friendly advice without judgment.

Her good times were many: she loved to host Christmas Eve, playing pitch, Scrabble, and Wednesday night gatherings with family and friends, having a drink, and discussing current events, past events, and the world beyond this one.

She found happiness in the simple things in life, including sitting on the front porch during the summer, reading a good book, and watching the birds. She enjoyed observing nature, listening to music, and, in her early days, camping at Lake George.

She was fiercely determined to live independently to the end, but her declining health and need for advanced care prevented this from happening. She received much love and great appreciation from staff for her spunkiness while at Alpine Nursing home. The family would like to thank them for their kindness as they helped her prepare for her departure from this world.

She is survived by her children: Sandra Pearl, and her partner Rick, of Mayfield, NY; Susan Armstrong, and her partner Troy, of Northville, NY; Mark Armstrong and his wife Jessica, of Dolgeville, NY, and their children Catherine, Vincent, and Benjamin Armstrong; her sister, Eleanor Tomaino, and her niece, Karen Langdon; also, her friend Terry Mussmacher, who was always there to lend a hand and provide companionship to the very end.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 19th, from 12pm-2pm, with a funeral service immediately afterward, at Fort Plain Funeral Home located at 34 Center Street., Fort Plain, NY 13339.  Burial will follow at the Fort Plain Cemetery.
