Peter J. Joyce, III, 83, of  Fort Plain, New York, died on March 21, 2026, at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Pete was born on June 13, 1942, the son of Peter J. Joyce, II, and Margaret Dygert Joyce, both of whom predeceased him.

In 1961, he graduated from Fort Plain High School. He then graduated from DeVry Technical Institute (now DeVry College) in Chicago in 1963. 

Then, in 1964, he enlisted in the US Air Force, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and being honorably discharged in 1968. 

For many years, he worked at General Electric in Schenectady, holding many positions throughout his employment. In later years he worked as a courier at NBT Bank.

In the late 1980's and early 1990's, he was elected as a village trustee for Fort Plain. Pete was of the Catholic faith. 

He was an active member of the Canajoharie Fort Plain Elks and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, playing pranks on his girls, watching movies, camping, traveling cross-country, and was also known as a very competitive Scrabble player. 

He was predeceased by his first wife, JoAnne Loadwick Joyce, 2nd wife, Joan Joyce, and survived by his current wife, Helen Weaver Joyce, whom he had known as a high school sweetheart, with their relationship picking up 60 years later. He was also predeceased by his sister Prisilla Person, and an infant brother and sister. 

Survivors include his wife Helen M.W. Joyce; daughters Alison and her husband Jason Wallace of Fultonville, NY, Jennifer and her husband Patrick Cechnicki of Fort Plain, Julianne Littrell of Albany, Oregon, and Susan and her husband Noel Fredericks of Schenectady; sister Peggy Ann Joyce Winnie; Grandchildren: Brittany and her husband Marvin Johnson, Alex Wallace, Joshua Cechnicki, Barry McGovern, Isaiah and his wife Lucia Cechnicki, Eliza Cechnicki and her fiance David Marvel, Katelyn and husband Christian Pearce, Emily Fredericks, Ava Fredericks, and Lindsay Wallace. Great-grandchildren Willow, Marvin III, Eva, and Indi, Peyton and Samwise and on August 9, 2025, with the union of Pete and Helen, it brought even more people for him to love and enjoy time with her family being added, including her daughter Patricia and her husband Brian Sweet; her son Mike and Missy Calbet, grandchildren Anna Sweet (Jake), Noah Sweet (Mara), Jon Calbet (Lexi), Louis and Hannah Calbet. He is also survived by his brother in law and his family, James Person- her children and grandchildren- James Person Jr. Married to Sarah Person, their kids are Emma Person and Liam Person, Samantha Blanc, Samantha Blanc and her husband is Dayton Blanc, their kids are Zenon Blanc, Ezra Blanc, and Grayson Blanc, Elizabeth Person her daughter's are Lilly Esposito and Rose Person. 

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, from 10:00-12:00 noon, at the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Funeral Service will take place immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Fort Plain Cemetery, with military honors by the US Air Force.
