John Hislop

A funeral service honoring the life of John D. Hislop, aged 62 (1963-2026), will be held at Our Lady of Hope in Fort Plain, NY, on March 11, 2026, at 11 am, followed by a reception at Jim’s Irish Harbor in Canajoharie, NY. 

John was born in Kittery, ME, on December 4, 1963, to the late Robert G. Hislop and Barbara (Bouchard) Hislop.  He moved to Canajoharie, NY, in 1968 and graduated from Canajoharie Central High School in 1982.  John earned a degree in Economics from Case Western University in Cleveland, OH, in 1986, and later added a degree in Computer Science from SUNY.  He has worked for the NYS Office of Technology since 1993.

John was well-loved by family, friends, and coworkers.  He enjoyed hiking and camping in the Adirondacks, playing the guitar – including performing with friends, cooking, gardening, music, painting, antiquing with his mother, sister, and brother-in-law, and was always seeking the perfect grind to brew the perfect cup of coffee.  He was a gourmet cook who developed many of his own recipes, and he also had an amazing ability to find the best restaurant meals.  He enjoyed sampling craft beers with his brother-in-law and friends.  He was a man of many talents, skills, and interests.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Barbara, his sister Pam, brothers Andy and Tim, sisters-in-law Mary and Chasity, brother-in-law Tim, his beloved cat Bette, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, and lifelong friends – too many to mention.  He left us far too soon and will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially his mother.
