Jack L. Whitney Obituary

Jack Whitney, 83, of Canajoharie, NY

November 26, 1942-March 1, 2026

Jack Whitney, 83, of Canajoharie, NY, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026.

Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he spent many years working as a truck driver, a career he truly loved. He enjoyed traveling the open road, meeting new people, and sharing stories along the way.

After retirement, Jack could be found every day at the Village Restaurant, where he became a beloved fixture. With a cup of coffee in hand, he enjoyed people-watching, friendly conversations, cracking jokes, and catching up with good friends — and even strangers. The Village Restaurant was more than just a stop in his day; it was where Jack felt at home.

Above all, Jack's greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He devoted his life to the m watching them grow up and play sports, and was there for every milestone in their life. The best part is that no matter how many years he watched them play sports, he still asked a thousand questions at every sporting event — a true testament to his deep love and involvement in their lives.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love and legacy will live on through the many memories he leaves behind.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Hazel Hyney, his children, daughter Sheila Smith (Bob Smith), Jodi Hardesty (Ashley Hardesty), and son Shannon Hyney (Cheri Hyney). As well as his grandchildren, Brandon Smith (Lauren Smith), Maddison Smith,

Jackie Brussell, Derek Hyney (Ashlynn Pessolano), Castine Hardesty, Kirsten Hyney, Calista Hardesty, and Cody Hyney. His daughter Brenda Whitney, and her children Drew and Griffin, daughter Kim (Al Sutton), and their children Jacklynn Whitney, Lauren (Gray Gay), and Amelia Whitney. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, Adrian, Gabriel, Henry, Charlie, Lucia, and Max, a beloved Aunt June Garlock, and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his brothers Doug and Dick Whitney.

Jack will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him, and his stories will be passed down to his future great-grandchildren.
