Lydia Smith, 87, of Wllett Street, Fort Plain, NY, died on January 6, 2026, at her home. 

Lydia was born on May 11, 1938, in  Buel, NY (Town of Canajoharie), the daughter of the late Lincoln Fralick, Sr., and Elizabeth Ballard Fralick.

In 1955, she graduated from Fort Plain High School.

While raising her family, she had worked at the Salvation Army of Fort Plain, NY. 

She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed attending garage sales, playing cards, embroidery, crocheting, sewing, and refinishing furniture.

On July 2, 1955, she married Olin E. Smith, Sr., who passed away on September 30, 1973. She was also predeceased by her son, Olin E. Smith, Jr., on May 8th, 2016, and her son Scott Smith, on August 17, 2016.

Survivors include her son, Gary, and his wife, Meredith Smith, and daughter Julie Smith and her husband Rodney Folts, Sr., 6 grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 9th, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. A Funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rita Pickett of the Ames Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
