George “Brian” Harrington

February 27, 1952 – December 1, 2025

George Brian Harrington was born on February 27, 1952, to George O. Harrington and Jane Scranton Tastle. A lifelong member of the Fort Plain community, Brian graduated from Fort Plain Central School in 1970. He went on to work at Beech-Nut, where he remained until his retirement, and proudly served as a Fort Plain police officer in the late 1970s.

On July 9, 1988, Brian was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Fredericks Harrington. Together, they built a strong and loving family grounded in dedication, compassion, and community.

Brian was best known throughout the area for his life-saving efforts and commitment to Mid County Ambulance. His calm presence, steady hands, and heartfelt care touched countless lives. Outside of his service to others, he was an avid deer hunter who cherished the peace and beauty of the outdoors. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips to the casino. 

He is predeceased by his sons, Roy Harrington and Jeremy Harrington; his sisters, Georgia Harper and Margaret & Don Beyer; his brother-in-law, Gordy Fredericks; and his parents.

Brian is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley; his son, George, and his wife, Stacey Harrington; and his daughters, Maria and her husband, Frank Nestle; Kiesha and her husband,  Don Dodson; and Nicole Fredericks and her husband, Jef Tworek. He is also lovingly remembered by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, Kathie, and her husband Steve LaBarge; and his special niece, Nancy Beyer, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family, and are entrusted to Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
