James R. Skinner Obituary

James Richard (“Jim”) Skinner, 73, of Palatine Bridge, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on August 18, 2025, lovingly cared for by his wife, Rebecca (“Becky”), and surrounded by family.

Jim and Becky wed on July 10, 1976, recently celebrating 49 years of marriage. Jim is also survived by three children: Tania (Shawn) Kilmartin of Fort Plain, Jeremy (Jesse) Grant-Skinner of Philadelphia, and Daniel Skinner; and two grandsons, Ethan and Jaden, who were a constant source of pride. Surviving siblings include brothers Gerald, John, Stephen, and William Skinner, and sister, Rosemary Hayner. He cherished his relationships with a close circle of lifelong friends, his mother-in-law, Mila Failing, and many other beloved family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Skinner, and sisters, Lucille Bradt and Margaret Nellis.

Born in Jamestown, New York on March 31, 1952, Jim was a lifelong resident of Fulton and Montgomery Counties. He worked for many years as a printer, operating machines first at Lifesavers in Canajoharie and later at Spalding in Gloversville. Jim loved hunting, tinkering with his CB radio to reach far beyond home, and working with all sorts of tools. He was known for his ready laugh, quiet generosity, and ability to fix almost anything.

Family and friends are invited to gather in memory of Jim on Sunday, September 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Firemen’s Home at 168 Canal Street, Fort Plain.
