Leon Douglas, aged 82, passed away on May 5, 2025, in Amsterdam, New York.
Leon was born on February 25, 1943, in Gloversville, New York, and was a longtime resident of Fort Plain. A well-respected business owner, he proudly operated Freysbush Garage, where his remarkable ability to fix just about anything earned him the admiration of many.
Leon was a gifted craftsman and woodworker, known for his skilled hands and creative mind. He especially enjoyed tinkering and building alongside his grandson, passing down his love of making and fixing things. In earlier years, he also found joy on the open road as a motorcycle enthusiast.
A passionate aviator, Leon owned three airplanes over the course of his life and was a skilled private pilot. He also enjoyed flying RC airplanes and was deeply connected to a large and loyal group of flying buddies who shared his love of the skies.
Above all, Leon cherished time with his family and held deep connections within his community.
Leon is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Sharon Douglas, with whom he shared a loving home and the companionship of their beloved cat, Pepper, who could often be found warming his lap. He leaves behind his daughter, Stacey Neznek (nee Douglas), and her husband, Daniel Neznek, who reside in Amsterdam, New York. He was a proud and cherished Papa to Holley Bills (nee Neznek) and her husband, JAred Bills, of Peoria, Arizona, as well as Nolen Neznek and his wife, Claire Neznek (nee Busby), of San Antonio, Texas. Leon also found joy in his "fur baby" great-grandchildren, Maple, Malla,Hank, and Mo-who brought warmth and delight to his days.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the friends and loved ones who have offered their support during this difficult time.
