Walter C. Lewis, Sr, 81, known by many as " Bub," died peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in the Town of Canajoharie, NY, on October 29, 1943, the son of Ray K. and Georgie A. Plaster Lewis, both of whom predeceased him.
Bub went to school in Fort Plain and then went on to become an auto mechanic. He owned and operated Walt's Garage until his retirement.
In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in White Sands, New Mexico. He was discharged in 1971 with the rank of SP4.
When he wasn't working, he enjoyed fixing lawn mowers, going to auctions, and spending time with his dog, "Pep."
He was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Lewis; his two brothers, Ernest Lewis and Keller Lewis; and his sister, Edna May Voght.
Survivors include his three daughters, Dawn (Dave) Chase, Teresa Jones (Dan Gray), and Angela Lewis (Harold Gray); one son, Walter Lewis, Jr. (Rebecca); 1 brother Jack and 1 sister Florence Ambridge, 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his best friend and companion "Pep".
Burial will take place at Freysbush Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date and will be announced.
