Barry W. Kahn Obituary

Mr. Barry W. Kahn,74, of Stone Arabia, NY, passed away in the early morning at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY following a several-year-long battle with cancer.


Mr. Kahn was born in Amsterdam, NY on November 6, 1950, the son of the late Donald and Marion Fredericks Kahn.


Barry graduated from Fort Plain High School, then went on to Fulton-Montgomery Community College, (of which he was a huge supporter, telling students for many years to use the community college, then transfer) and then obtained his Bachelor's and master's degrees from Plattsburgh State College.


Barry was a 5th-grade teacher at Fort Plain Elementary School, where he loved helping students do their best and showing a true love of helping them.


He lived his entire life in the local area.


Mr. Kahn loved Jesus and had given away 8-9,000 study Bibles to people throughout his life. He also loved spending time at his property in Canada Lake, Hiking, Traveling, and helping his fellow teachers by representing them in the teachers' union.


His survivors include his sisters Cindy Kahn and Monica Durkee, his brother Ernie D. Kahn, his nephew Adam Durkee, and his nieces Amber Geismann and Mandy Beggs.


Barry's wishes were to be cremated and not have formal services. This is under the direction of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
