Obituary of Elsie Floyd

Elsie Floyd, 85, born on July 23, 1939, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, N.Y. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on February 22, 2025, Gateway Community Church, located at 180 Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville, N.Y. A celebration of life gathering will be held right afterwards at the home of Joyce and Rob Floyd, which is located at 380 Ridge Road, Broadalbin, N.Y. The burial will be in the spring at Mayfield Cemetery.     

Born in Wells, N. Y., the daughter of Robert and Myrtle Buyce. She was one of the youngest of 8 siblings. They later moved to Gloversville, N.Y. where Elsie attended Gloversville schools. She graduated from Gloversville High School in June,1957.  

She then married Rodney Floyd on June 30, 1957. She was predeceased by her husband Rodney, her youngest son Timothy Floyd, and her oldest granddaughter Christina Veltri. She leaves behind three children Terry (Rodney), Sweet, Robert (Joyce) Floyd, and Richard (Kristy) Floyd. And her grandchildren Rachel, Tammy, Valerie, Renee, Bradley, Katee, Elizabeth, and Nicholas. Nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. 

Elsie worked for many years as a cashier for Central Market before it transitioned to Price Chopper. She then retired as a cashier from Price Chopper in Gloversville. 

Elsie was a very active 4-H Leader from 1970 to 1978. Elsie along with two other leaders taught home economics such as sewing, cooking, gardening, etc. 

Elsie was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Johnstown, N.Y now known as the Foothills Worship Center in Johnstown, NY.  She served for four years as the church secretary and on several committees. She was a Sunday School teacher, a Lay Speaker and the Lay Leader for the congregation. She was also a member of the United Women in Faith of the church.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Houghtaling & Hanley Funeral Home Inc, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie  N.Y. 13317.
