Obituary of Olin William Bierman

Mr. Olin William Bierman, 73, of State Street, Fort Plain, New York died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family and friends, following a long battle with cancer. Born on October 5, 1941 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Arthur Carter and Julie Shartrand. He was a graduate of Amsterdam High School, Class of 1959 and had spent over 25 years in the local area. Mr. Bierman was a cook for the former Charter House restaurant. Most of his life he worked as an Electrician, working mostly at the Air force Base in Puerto Rico. Olin served for the US Air Force for 12 years as a clerk from 1959-1971. He was a former member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 and was a diehard Yankee fan. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and listening to music. Olin truly loved life. He was predeceased by his parents. Mr. Bierman is survived by his son, William D. Bierman of Puerto Rico; step-daugher, Tina LeRoy of Fort Plain, NY; and many friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Noon at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. Olin William Bierman may be made to the Charity of one's choice.
